Cold season in Baltimore County starts quietly.

One coworker sniffles through an October meeting, a kid stays home from school by the middle of the month, and by Thanksgiving it feels like everyone you know is either sick or getting over something.

Why Vitamin C and Zinc Show Up in Cold Season Drips

Vitamin C and zinc are two nutrients your immune system leans on every day. White blood cells use vitamin C to do their work, and zinc helps those cells develop and respond when a virus shows up. When you're stressed, short on sleep, or eating on the run, your diet is usually the first thing to slip. That's why both sit at the center of our Immunity infusion, along with fluids, B-complex, and glutathione.

Vitamin C is also the most studied nutrient for colds. A large Cochrane review found that

people who took vitamin C regularly had colds that cleared a little faster

, about 8% sooner in adults. Zinc has its own body of research, mostly with lozenges started at the first sign of a sore throat. We follow that research by treating an infusion as steady support through the season, booked ahead of a busy stretch, alongside good sleep and your flu shot.

What an IV Infusion Does Well

Fluids are the part of an IV that works fast. When you're run down, behind on sleep, or dragging after a stomach bug, fluid and electrolytes go straight into your bloodstream instead of waiting on your gut, and most people feel the difference before they leave the lounge. A session takes 30 to 40 minutes. You can sit back, answer a few emails, and walk out with your hydration handled.

Our Immunity infusion pairs those fluids with vitamin C, zinc, B-complex, and glutathione, and it's the one we point people to from October through March. Think of it as support for a stretch when you're sleeping less, eating worse, and running on coffee. The Meyer's Cocktail covers similar ground.

Traveling for Thanksgiving? Fly High Hydration adds B12 and magnesium and is built for the day before a trip, because travel days are long and most of us drink less water than we think. The Morning After is the one to know about once holiday party season starts. The part of it that works fastest is the anti-nausea and headache medicine, along with the fluids, and the B-complex and magnesium play a smaller role than the name on the bag suggests.

Wellness Shots Work Best When Something Is Low

          Our wellness shots

are quick injections into the muscle that take a few minutes, which makes them the easiest thing on the menu to fit into a lunch break. The B12 Energy shot is the one people ask about most in winter. B12 supports red blood cell production and the nervous system, and if your levels run low, correcting them can make a noticeable difference in how tired you feel. If your levels are already normal, extra B12 won't give you more energy, because your body stores what it needs and clears the rest.

The people most likely to run low are adults over 50, anyone who eats little or no meat, eggs, or dairy, and people who've taken acid reducers or metformin for a long time. If that sounds like you, ask your primary care doctor for a blood test or bring recent results to your visit, and we'll talk through whether regular shots make sense for you.

Glutathione and NAD+ are popular. We offer both. Most of the NAD+ research comes from lab and animal studies, and the human trials of injected glutathione are small, so we describe them as treatments clients enjoy and come back for. We don't offer either one as a way to fight off a cold, and anyone promising that NAD+ will keep you healthy all winter is getting ahead of the studies.

. It takes about two weeks to build that protection, which is why October is the right time. Your pharmacy or primary care office can give it to you in a few minutes, and nothing on our menu replaces it. Once it's done, an infusion in the same week is fine.

An IV lounge is the wrong place for a fever. If you're running a temperature, coughing hard, or feeling like you've been hit by something heavier than a cold, call us to reschedule. You need rest, and the person in the next chair doesn't need what you have.

If you're having trouble breathing, have chest pain, have had a fever for more than a few days, or can't keep fluids down, skip us and see your doctor or an urgent care. Those are signs of something an infusion can't fix.

Most people expect the first month of medical weight loss to be the big one. It usually isn't, and that's on purpose. Both semaglutide and tirzepatide start at a low dose whose main job is to let your stomach adjust, and your provider raises it gradually from there.

in early October, your first 12 weeks run through Halloween, Thanksgiving and most of December, so we plan around the calendar before your first injection.

Semaglutide acts on one appetite hormone, GLP-1, and tirzepatide acts on two, GLP-1 and GIP. Both slow how quickly your stomach empties and quiet the signals that keep you thinking about food, so you feel full sooner and snack less between meals. Both are once-weekly injections. Your plan starts with a $100 consultation, and that deposit goes toward your treatment, which you can see alongside our other services on the

The step-up approach is the part that surprises people. You start on a low dose, and your provider increases it gradually, only when you're tolerating the current one well. How fast that happens, and where your dose ends up, depends on your health history, how your body responds and which medication you're on.

That's why your schedule is set at your consultation and adjusted at each check-in. Some people move up steadily, and others hold at one dose longer while side effects settle. We'll also show you exactly how your dose is measured before you take anything home, and many people are still building toward their long-term dose at the three-month mark, which is worth knowing before you step on a scale.

Month One: Your Stomach Is Adjusting

Some people notice their appetite drop within the first few days, and others feel very little at the starting dose. Both are normal.

The most common side effects are nausea, an early sense of fullness, and constipation or diarrhea, and they tend to show up right after a dose increase and ease over the following days. Smaller meals help more than anything else. Stop eating at the first sign of fullness, start each meal with protein, and keep water nearby, because dehydration makes nausea and constipation worse.

For many people, the second month brings a first dose increase, and this is when the medication starts to feel noticeable between meals. Cravings get quieter, and portions that used to feel normal start to feel like too much.

By the third month, the routine usually feels familiar, and you've learned how your body responds when your dose changes. This stretch is where daily habits start to matter as much as the dose.

How to Enjoy Thanksgiving on Medical Weight Loss

Thanksgiving is manageable on these medications, though it takes a different plan than the one you're used to. Because your stomach empties more slowly, a meal that would have felt heavy last year can now leave you nauseated for the rest of the evening. Use a smaller plate, start with turkey and vegetables, and go easy on the fried, rich and buttery dishes, which are the ones most likely to cause trouble. Alcohol tends to hit harder and can add to the nausea, so pace yourself and alternate with water.

The most common mistake is saving up. Skipping breakfast to make room for dinner sounds smart, but on these medications it usually backfires, because you arrive hungry, eat fast and feel sick an hour later. Have a small breakfast with some protein, like eggs or Greek yogurt, and a light lunch if dinner runs late. You'll sit down calm enough to choose the dishes you actually want.

Once you're at the table, slow everything down. Take a few bites of the dishes you look forward to all year instead of a full scoop of everything, and set your fork down between bites while the conversation carries on. Fullness can arrive quickly now, and going past it is what turns a nice dinner into an uncomfortable evening. Give yourself 15 or 20 minutes before deciding on seconds, and most people find the first plate was plenty.

Dessert can stay on the menu. Pick the one pie you'd miss most and have a small slice, ideally after a short break from the main meal. When the leftovers come out, pack them in small containers so tomorrow's lunch is a normal-sized portion. If you're a guest, it's perfectly fine to take a plate home and enjoy it the next day, when you're hungry again and the food tastes just as good.

Family tables come with questions, and you decide how much to share. "I'm full, but everything was wonderful" works with almost every host. If someone keeps offering a second plate, ask for a to-go container and thank them. Your treatment is your own business, and a short, friendly answer ends the conversation faster than a long explanation, which leaves more time for the parts of the day you came for.

After dinner, a 15- to 20-minute walk helps you feel less heavy, and it's an easy way to get a few relatives out of the house for some fresh air. Keep sipping water through the evening, especially if there was wine with dinner. If you're hosting this year, make at least one dish you know sits well with you, so there's always something on the table that works for your plan.

Don't skip or move your injection to make room for a bigger meal. If travel pulls you off your usual injection day, call us before you double up or skip a week, because each medication has its own window for a late dose. And if the holiday weekend left you feeling rough, tell us before your next increase. Your provider may hold your current dose a little longer, which often makes the next step easier.

Botox needs two weeks, filler needs four, PRF needs months. Get the exact 2026 holiday booking deadlines from Nōvuu Med Spa in Pikesville, MD. Book early.

Baltimore's holiday season starts earlier than anyone remembers it starting. Between family photos in early November, Thanksgiving, the first night of Hanukkah landing on December 4 this year, and the office parties that cluster into the first two weekends of December, the stretch of calendar most of us think of as the holidays is really about eight weeks of being photographed. If you're in Pikesville and you want to look like yourself on a good day for all of it, the work starts in September.

We hear the same request every year, usually in the second week of November: “Can you fit me in before Thanksgiving?” Sometimes we can. Most of the time we can't, because almost nothing we do looks its best on day one, and the treatments people want most before an event are the ones that need the most lead time. Botox takes about two weeks to settle. PRF builds collagen over months. Booking early buys you the difference between walking into a room relaxed and spending the night angling your face away from someone's phone.

So here is the whole timeline, counted backward from this year’s holiday calendar. If you'd rather skip the math and just ask us, that's what a consult is for, and you can book a consultation at our Pikesville office any time.

Botox Needs Two Weeks, and Three Is Better

Neurotoxin doesn't work the moment the needle comes out. It takes a few days for the signal between nerve and muscle to quiet down, and according to Cleveland Clinic, most people notice the first change around day three or four, with the full result visible in 2 weeks. Two weeks is the floor. Three is what we'd rather give you, because it leaves room for a two-week check where we can add a few units if one brow is sitting higher than the other, and you can't make a small adjustment the morning of the party.

Thanksgiving falls on Thursday, November 26, so your last comfortable appointment is Thursday, November 12. Hanukkah begins the evening of Friday, December 4, which moves the deadline up to Friday, November 20. Christmas Day is Friday, December 25, so you have until Friday, December 11. And New Year's Eve is Thursday, December 31, which makes Thursday, December 17 the last appointment we'd feel good about.

One more thing we say every year. If you already know you want your neurotoxin/Botox appointment in November, book it in September. The two weeks before Thanksgiving and the first week of December are the busiest stretch of our year, and those slots fill up fast.

Filler and EZ Gel Want Four Weeks

Anything that adds volume needs a longer runway than a wrinkle relaxer, for two reasons: swelling and settling. Cleveland Clinic notes that bruising, swelling and tenderness after filler injections are usually mild and resolve in a few days, and that holds for most patients. But usually mild is not a plan you build an event around, and dermal filler keeps integrating into the tissue for weeks after the bruise has faded. Four weeks covers both, and it leaves room for a touch-up if one side settles differently than the other.

The volume we build with PRF EZ Gel runs on its own clock. We make it from your own blood, spun here in the office and heated into a moldable gel, so your body does the building rather than a syringe of hyaluronic acid doing it for you. Expect mild swelling for the first day or two, real change around week four, and the peak collagen response somewhere between weeks eight and twelve. If you want it looking its best for one specific night, four weeks is the minimum and six is more comfortable.

For New Year's Eve, that puts your last filler appointment on Thursday, December 3. For an office party the first weekend of December, you're already looking at early November. And facial balancing, which usually means treating more than one area in a single visit, deserves the longer end of that window.

Microneedling with PRF Is a Series, Not an Appointment

This is the one people underestimate, and it's the one we most often have to talk through at the consult. Microneedling with PRF works best as three sessions spaced four to six weeks apart, with collagen continuing to build for weeks after the last visit, and you should plan on 24 to 48 hours of redness after each one. One session gives you a glow that lasts a few days. Three sessions change the texture of your skin.

Running up against a December 31 event and your first session needs to happen by roughly Thursday, October 8. Any later and you'll walk into New Year's Eve two sessions into a three-session plan, which still helps, though you'll be seeing about two thirds of what you paid for. And if you're reading this in late October convinced you've missed the window, start anyway. You'll be glad in February, when everyone else looks tired.

Hair works on a scale of months. PRF hair restoration runs as several sessions spaced a few weeks apart, and visible density takes a few months to show up, because we're waiting on your growth cycle rather than on a product sitting under your skin. Book a first session in September and you're treating for spring, not for December. It's still worth starting now, because the alternative is calling us in March wishing you had.

Baltimore's event season is more compressed than people remember, and in Pikesville it starts earlier than it does in the rest of the county. Hanukkah runs from the evening of Friday, December 4 through Saturday, December 12 this year, so the first round of family gatherings and photographs happens before a lot of people have thought about their office party at all. Family photos usually get shot the first two weekends of November, Thanksgiving lands Thursday, November 26, office parties cluster into the first and second weekends of December, and then Christmas and New Year's Eve close it out on Friday, December 25 and Thursday, December 31.

Which means that if November photos are on your list, your Botox deadline isn't in November at all. It's the last week of October, roughly seven weeks from the day this posts.

Count backward using the table above, put that date in your phone, and call us at (410) 205-6160 to book it even if the appointment is nine weeks out. If you're not sure which treatment you're actually asking for, our Treatment Finder Quiz takes a couple of minutes and gives you somewhere to start before you pick up the phone.

The people who look effortless in December booked in September, and there's nothing mysterious about it. We see patients from Pikesville, Owings Mills, Mount Washington, Reisterstown, and throughout the Baltimore area, and the stretch between Thanksgiving and New Year's fills faster every year.

Your First Time With Injectables: A Beginner's Guide to Botox, Filler, and PRF in Pikesville

Nervous about your first Botox, filler, or PRF appointment? Here's exactly what happens at Nōvuu Med Spa in Pikesville, MD, from consult to walking out.

Nobody books their first injectable appointment on a whim.

They've been thinking about it for months. They've scrolled the before-and-afters at midnight. They've zoomed in on one line in a photo from somebody else's wedding. And then they park outside our Pikesville office and sit there for a minute thinking, what if I walk out looking like a different person?

We hear that more than anything else. So this one's for the person who's never done it, doesn't know the vocabulary, and would rather not have to fake it in the consult room.

Three categories, and almost everything falls into one of them

          Neurotoxins

The Botox family: Dysport, Xeomin, and Jeuveau are in it too, and they all do roughly the same job: quiet the signal between a nerve and a muscle so the muscle stops folding the skin above it.

That's why they work on lines that show up when you move. Forehead lines. The "11s" between your brows. Crow's feet. They do very little for the lines that sit there when your face is completely still, which surprises a lot of people.

They also don't work instantly, and this catches almost every first-timer off guard. You'll usually notice the first softening around day three to five, and full results arrive at two weeks.

One thing the American Academy of Dermatology is emphatic about: botulinum toxin should only be injected by a licensed medical provider in a medical setting. Worth remembering next time a deal shows up in your feed for half what a real clinic charges.

          Dermal fillers

Gels, usually hyaluronic acid, that put volume back where you've lost it. Cheeks that have flattened out. A chin that's softened. Lips. The hollow under the eye that makes you look tired in every photo taken after 4pm.

The FDA has approved fillers for specific facial areas in adults 22 and older. A good injector tells you which product they're using and why, before anything touches your face. If yours won't name the product, that's your answer.

          PRF

Short for platelet-rich fibrin, and it's the one people find strangest at first, because it uses your own blood.

We draw a small amount, spin it in a centrifuge, and pull off the layer that's dense with platelets and growth factors. Then it goes back into your skin: as an injectable gel, alongside microneedling, or into the scalp for hair. Nothing synthetic gets added. If that's the direction you're leaning, our PRF services page breaks down each version.

Still not sure which of the three you're actually asking about? The Treatment Finder Quiz takes about two minutes and gives you somewhere to start before you ever pick up the phone.

What a first appointment actually looks like

You talk first. Before anything else, you sit down and say what bothers you. Not in clinical language. "I look exhausted in every photo" is a perfectly good answer and we know what to do with it.

Your injector watches your face move. Raise your brows, frown, squint, smile. Muscle patterns differ enormously from one face to the next, and this is where dosing gets decided.

You get a plan and a price before you agree to anything. Units, syringes, areas, cost. If any part of it is unclear, say so out loud. This is the moment for that.

The area gets cleaned and mapped, sometimes with a white pencil, sometimes just by eye.

Then the injections. Neurotoxin is a handful of tiny ones and takes about ten minutes. Filler runs longer, usually twenty to thirty, with numbing cream or lidocaine already mixed into the product.

You get aftercare instructions and you go. No bandages, no recovery room, no ride home required. Most people head straight back to work.

First neurotoxin visit, consultation included, is usually under forty-five minutes.

          About the pain

Neurotoxin uses a very fine needle and sits just under the skin. Most people call it a quick pinch, repeated a few times, done in seconds per spot.

Filler is a bigger ask. The needle or cannula travels deeper and further, so numbing cream helps and most modern fillers come with lidocaine already in them. Lips are the most sensitive area by a wide margin and we're not going to pretend otherwise.

PRF opens with a blood draw. Same sensation as any lab visit, over in under a minute.

          The frozen forehead thing

This is the fear underneath almost every first consult, so let's be blunt about it.

A frozen forehead is a dosing decision. It isn't what injectables inherently do. Too many units in the wrong muscles will flatten your expression, and the fix is straightforward: a conservative first treatment, a two-week follow-up, and small additions if you decide you want more. The follow-up is at two weeks for a reason, as that’s when full results are in, so it's the first honest look at what your dose actually did. That's how we run a new patient at Nōvuu. We would much rather under-treat you in September and add a few units in October than send you home overdone.

You're also not signing anything permanent. Neurotoxin wears off. Depending on the product, your metabolism, and the area treated, results usually hold around three to four months. If you hate it, that's the ceiling on how long you live with it.

Most patients who ask us about PRF have already seen it on TikTok. Usually it's a syringe of gold-colored gel and a caption about “natural filler.” What almost nobody can tell you is what's actually in the tube, why the spin speed matters, or why we'd recommend it enthusiastically for one concern and talk you out of it for another.

So here is the unglamorous version of how we use

          platelet-rich fibrin

at Nōvuu Med Spa in Pikesville, MD, across the three treatments patients ask about most: PRF EZ Gel, PRF for hair restoration, and microneedling with PRF.

          What PRF Actually Is

PRF starts the same way a routine lab draw does. We take one to three tubes of your blood, depending on what we're treating, and spin them in a centrifuge for about ten minutes.

The difference between PRF and the older PRP protocol comes down to what we leave out. PRP tubes contain an anticoagulant and get spun fast. PRF tubes contain nothing at all, and we spin them slower. Your blood is allowed to begin clotting naturally, which builds a soft fibrin scaffold. Platelets, white blood cells, and stem cells get caught inside that mesh instead of washing out.

That scaffold is the whole point. PRP dumps its growth factors quickly. PRF holds onto them and releases them gradually over roughly a week to ten days, which is closer to how healing actually works in your body. Nothing goes into the syringe that didn't come out of your arm.

          PRF EZ Gel: Our Biofiller

EZ Gel adds one extra step

, but it makes all the difference in our

          EZ Gel for filler

          .

After the spin, we draw off the top plasma layer, which is about 60 percent albumin, and heat it to 75 degrees Celsius for ten minutes before cooling it back down. The heat denatures the albumin and restructures it into a dense, moldable gel.

Published work on this heating protocol found it produces a uniform gel with a substantially longer degradation time than untreated PRF

, which is why the technique took off. Then we mix the untouched platelet layer back in, so you get the slow-release growth factors plus the structure.

under-eye hollows, temples, nasolabial folds, marionette lines, the backs of the hands, and crepey skin along the jawline. The under-eye is the most requested area by a wide margin, and it's the area where a soft autologous gel behaves better than a stiff synthetic product.

          Where we don't use it:

if you want a projected cheek, a defined chin, or a sharp jaw, EZ Gel is the wrong tool and we'll tell you so. The volume it provides is subtle. Expect mild swelling for 24 to 48 hours, real change around week four, and peak collagen response somewhere between weeks eight and twelve. Most patients do a short series and then come back for maintenance.

The best candidates are people catching it early: a part that's widening, temples that are receding, diffuse thinning on the crown, or postpartum shedding that hasn't bounced back. If a scalp is smooth and shiny with no visible follicles, the follicle is gone and no injection is bringing it back. We’ll always have that conversation at the consult rather than after you've paid for four sessions.

, though the authors noted meaningful variability between studies. PRF is a newer generation of the same concept with less trial data behind it. We use it because the slow growth-factor release makes biological sense and because our patients respond, not because there's a mountain of PRF-specific literature.

PRF is autologous, so allergic reaction isn't a concern, but other things are.

We'll pause or decline treatment for active bleeding disorders, low platelet counts, blood thinners without clearance from your prescriber, an active skin infection or cold sore in the treatment area, recent isotretinoin use, and pregnancy or breastfeeding. Heavy smoking blunts the results considerably. And PRF is not FDA-approved as a dermal filler. It's your own blood, processed in our clinic and returned to you, which is a different regulatory category entirely.

Summer Skincare Routine Essentials: Why SPF, Vitamin C, and Retinol Matter Most.

Baltimore summers are hard on skin. Between the humidity, the sun exposure, and the sweat that comes with just walking from your car to the office, a skincare routine has to work harder from June through September than it does the rest of the year. If you're in Pikesville or anywhere else in Baltimore County, this is the season to get serious about three things: SPF, vitamin C, and retinol.

At Nōvuu Medspa, we hear some version of the same question all summer: "Do I actually need all three?" Yes, and each one is doing a different job. Skip one and the other two end up fighting an uphill battle.

SPF Is the One Step You Cannot Skip

Sunscreen is the only step in a skincare routine that prevents damage instead of treating it after the fact. We recommend using a broad-spectrum sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or higher every day, even on cloudy days, and reapplying at least every two hours when you're outside. Broad spectrum matters because it blocks both UVB rays, the ones that burn you, and UVA rays, the ones that quietly age your skin even through a car windshield or on a gray day at the pool in Owings Mills.

Most people apply too little and reapply too rarely. A nickel-sized amount for your face is the standard dermatologists actually recommend, not the thin swipe most of us are used to.

Vitamin C Serum: Your Morning Backup

Vitamin C serum doesn't replace sunscreen. No product does. But it does something SPF can't: it works as an antioxidant, helping your skin fight off the free-radical damage from sun exposure and pollution before that damage turns into fine lines and dark spots. Applied under sunscreen each morning, vitamin C also helps even out the discoloration that Baltimore's humid summers tend to bring out, especially for anyone already prone to melasma or sun spots.

Not all vitamin C serums are created equal, though. Look for a stable formulation, ideally with L-ascorbic acid, packaged in a dark or airtight bottle. If your serum has turned yellow or brown, it's oxidized and has stopped doing its job. That's the most common reason we hear "vitamin C doesn't work for me," when really the bottle gave out weeks ago.

Retinol: Save It for Nighttime, Not Vacation

Retinol is the ingredient people either swear by or avoid completely in summer, and the truth sits in between. Retinol speeds up skin cell turnover, which improves texture, fine lines, and pigmentation over time. It also

. That doesn't mean you have to quit it from June to September. It means you use it at night, pair it religiously with SPF the next morning, and ease off in the days before a beach trip or a long day outdoors.

If you're new to retinol, or your skin tends to get irritated easily, start with two to three nights a week and build up slowly. Jumping straight to nightly use is the fastest way to end up red, flaky, and convinced retinol "just doesn't work" for you.

Building the Routine, Not Just Buying the Products

Order matters as much as the products themselves. A basic summer routine: cleanse, vitamin C serum in the morning (retinol at night instead), moisturizer, then SPF as the last step before you walk out the door. Apply sunscreen before your serum has fully absorbed, or skip the order altogether, and neither product works as well as it should.
